Trust and Security FAQs

Teradata applies classification, masking, column-level encryption, and identity-aware access control at the data layer. The same policies govern users, applications, analytics workloads, and AI-driven access.

Teradata uses role-based access control through global identity and dynamic attribute-based access control (ABAC) delivered through its integration with Immuta. Policies are enforced at query time without duplicating data.

Yes. Teradata supports customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK), TLS 1.3 for client sessions, and column-level encryption. TLS 1.3 hybrid-key exchange adds post-quantum algorithms for data in transit.

Through its OEM partnership with Anonomatic, Teradata offers Poly-Anonymization®, format-preserving protection, privacy-preserving record linkage, unstructured PII redaction, and controlled re-identification. The Anonomatic PII Vault® is a post-quantum-secure environment built with multiple layers of overlapping security controls designed to protect sensitive identity information.

No. Teradata does not own customer data and does not access or view data stored in a customer’s tenant. Customers keep ownership and control of their data.

Teradata Enterprise Data Protection combines backup and recovery, immutable backups, database-level high availability, and disaster recovery. Immutable recovery points cannot be modified, encrypted, or deleted, even by privileged administrators.

Database-level high availability uses real-time replication for continuous synchronization and low recovery objectives. Disaster recovery is a separate recovery capability for major disruptions.

Teradata publishes independent third-party reports for Teradata Cloud, and supports customer compliance programs across global privacy, AI governance, and operational requirements. See the certifications and compliance page for the current list.

The Data Processing Addendum (DPA) and General Processing Document (GPD) describe how personal data is processed in connection with Teradata services. Both are available through the data privacy page.
