Teradata's Ambitious New Commitment to Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero

Today, we are announcing our commitment to carbon neutrality and net zero, with each target designed to deliver true accountability and progress. Teradata is committing to be carbon neutral in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by year-end 2024 and net zero for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050.

To support Teradata’s commitments, we have created a cross-functional Corporate Citizenship Council to drive our ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) initiatives, formally set (and exceeded) our previous climate action goals and established strategic ESG Pillars to focus on the most material ESG opportunities where we can make a positive impact of Data, People, Stewardship, and Integrity. These efforts are aligned with the results of an extensive ESG materiality assessment completed in 2022 by Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.

Teradata's Environmental, Social, and Governance

By making our commitments to Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero public and transparent, we are holding ourselves accountable to our employees, customers, shareholders, communities, and other stakeholders.

Committed environmental stewards

Teradata’s focus for environmental stewardship is centered on two areas: sustainable operations and supply chain. In addition to our carbon neutrality and net zero commitments, Teradata has set the following 2025 stewardship goals:

  • Reduce global energy consumption by 30% (2021 baseline);
  • Reduce Scope 2 emissions by 34% (2021 baseline); and
  • 50% of Teradata’s supplier spend is taking targeted action to reduce their emissions.

Help customers use data to achieve ESG ambitions

Teradata’s strong expertise in analytics and data will be put in service of helping customers utilize data to help them achieve their ESG ambitions. This is in addition to the fact that Teradata’s Vantage platform and ClearScape Analytics are designed for optimal power and consumption efficiencies. As a result, Teradata is providing tools and capabilities for our customers to advance their own ESG ambitions on an energy efficient platform.

Support our people with continuous drive for diversity and inclusion in our company

Teradata’s employee-led DE&I Advisory Board has established diversity representation goals. These goals complement other areas of focus for the People Pillar, including learning and development for Teradata employees, and driving a culture of community outreach and giving back.

Transparency and accountability to our commitments

Teradata is preparing its 2022 ESG Report. Consistent with our commitment to transparency, we will discuss in more depth the stated goals, baseline metrics and year-over-year progress in this report. In addition, to support our dedication to accountability, in 2024 we will have our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) goals and YoY progress audited by a third-party and will include the results in our next ESG report.

ESG: Good business, better for the world

Teradata is regularly recognized for our efforts in driving ESG and demonstrating ethical behavior. But that is not why we do it. We believe that nurturing a culture where everyone brings their authentic self to work and thrives, operates ethically in all business dealings, and creates meaningful change for the broader global community, including through environmental stewardship, is just good business. It is a table stake for the next generation of leaders and critical for the health and well-being of all our employees, partners, customers, and our planet. As we continue to advance our ESG efforts and execute on our goals, our commitment to all our stakeholders remains clear and unwavering.
